My heart hurts but I already used my free-be so I got to man up and write this amazing breakdown of art yo!
So this work of art was concocted by an unknown person of what is believed British decent. The title of the work is "Agony in the garden and betray of Christ". The year of creation is circa 1270 AD, created using tempera and gold and parchment, it is not that large of an item, the dimensions be 23.5x16.5 cm.
The culture of the time was British seeing that it comes from an English psalter.
This picture represents a part in the old testament the night before Jesus's trial. The first panel is Jesus praying in a garden with is apostles asleep to the left. The bottom panel is Jesus being identified by judas and an angry mob forming as they do not believe he is the king of the jews. I feel for Jesus ya know, he was really close to someone and they did something to lose his trust don't you hate when that happens. The subject really seems to be a large turning point into something else. As a viewer, I don't see this a new style its abut Jesus and everyone was drawing Jesus back in the day.
The artist used differant colors to sybmolize differant moods of characters. The blue repersent s the holy people the people who side with Jesus. While the red and orange and tan colors repersents those who wish to do harm to the jesus and his ways.
I Belive the meaning of this peice is the mirror the political changes going ont during the time. Pre-1270 King John is forced to sign the magna carta. As a veiwer I beleive that this peiod in the bible is parrlell to this time in history. As jesus is turned on by one of his aposltles King John is turned on by his nobles and barons to sign the Magna Carta.
