The picture I selected was from Wing Young Huie from his University Avenue Project on the album " Third Place Gallery" (http://www.wingyounghuie.com/p929219206/h617c9bfa#h6f9bc857)
This picture shows a young black male sitting in a classroom environment holding a chalkboard that says " I'm never choosin". He is wearing clothes that are deemed normal for the time period, he has a rolling SpongeBob backpack that resembles a suitcase style, with the wheels on the bottom.
By dwelling deeper into this picture we see that he uses slang when he is writing, he says "choosin" instead of "choosing". Since his backpack has Spongebob on it, and he does appear to be a grown man we can make the argument that he is never choosing what he gets. In a sense beggars, cannot be choosers. The classroom he is in looks run down, this may be a bad part of town and his family or he lacks the proper funds to purchase a backpack he likes but has to go with either a donation or what he can afford. The argument that could as be made is that he is a black male, dressing like he is straight out of a Soulja boy music video. He is making the argument that he is never choosing how peopled perceive him, they might see him as a treat when really he's just a kid trapped in a grown man body hence the SpongeBob backpack.
Wing Young Huie and Margret use symbolism and imagery to present the concept of irony. Both authors use these very heavily, hell ones a picture, Attwood use of allusion to the bible and symbolism of the store front signs that Offred and Oflgen see every day on their walk to the market. This is a process of othering, hindering someone from reading and forcing them to navigate via bible stories is making women in the society of Gilead completely different from men because they aren't allowed to read. Huie uses symbolism in the form of the Spongebob backpack to show how he's harmless but people still perceive him as a thug due to his race and clothing choice. This use of symbolism shows that since he's a black man he is alienated and perceived as a thug cause of his use of a slang word and clothing.
